PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Giulia Cianfriglia's walk-off home run highlighted a busy weekend for Trinity Softball, as the Trolls split a CCAC doubleheader with Roosevelt on Friday, before taking two non-conference victories in dramatic fashion on Saturday over North Park (Ill.) at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
Game 1
Trinity 5, Roosevelt 1
WP: Halmon (5-6) • LP: Sisson (2-7)
• The Trolls would take their first lead of the day in the 3rd inning, as Aubrey O'Neal reached base with a one-out single. The freshman would then score on Charlie Sartoris' triple, and the senior came home on an error for the 2-0 advantage.
• Trinity tacked on two more runs in the top of the 4th, with RBI singles from Jolie Robertson and Alex Hofman.
• Myleigh Halmon's two-out RBI single scored Alana Buchanan for the 5-0 lead in the 7th inning. Roosevelt would get a run on the board in the bottom half of the frame, but a double play would end the threat and give the Trolls the first win of the weekend.
• Halmon earned the win in the circle, throwing all seven innings without an earned run allowed.
• Sartoris, Robertson, and Hofman each finished with two base hits and an RBI in the win.
Game 2
Roosevelt 5, Trinity 2
WP: Norman (6-3) • LP: Lorscheider (6-5)
• The Lakers took a 2nd-inning lead, scoring twice on five hits for the 2-0 edge.
• Sartoris' leadoff single and stolen base in the top of the 3rd set the table for Cianfriglia, whose groundout drive in a run and cut the deficit to 2-1.
• Roosevelt added another run in the bottom of the 3rd, but Hofman would get it back in the 4th inning, driving in Isabella Hull on a two-out double.
• The first three batters would reach base for Roosevelt in the bottom of the 5th, as the Lakers extended their lead with two runs on three hits for a 5-2 score. The Trolls would get runners on base in both the 6th and 7th, but were unable to cash in resulting in a split of Friday's doubleheader.
• Sartoris would go 3-for-4 at the plate, with a run scored. Robertson finished 2-for-2 with a walk to reach base in all three plate appearances.
Game 3
Trinity 8, North Park 3
WP: Lowden (1-5) • LP: Lafnear (1-8)
• The Trolls returned home on Saturday afternoon, opening with runs in each of the first four innings against the Vikings. Sartoris would score in the 1st on a fielding error, then Hailey LaGrange came home in the 2nd on Aubrey O'Neal's single to center. LaGrange then singled in the 3rd to score Erianna Claudio, and Maddy McIntyre's two-run double highlighted a three-run 4th inning that put the Trolls ahead 6-2.
• Alex Hofman singled to bring home Katie Lorscheider in the bottom of the 6th, before Zoey Fleischauer's sac fly scored LaGrange for a 8-2 lead. North Park would score one in the top of the 7th, but the Trolls would end the rally to secure the first of two wins on the day.
• Peyton Lowden earned her first victory as a Troll, pitching all seven innings and striking out four.
• Sartoris would finish 3-for-5 at the plate, with two runs scored. LaGrange went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored.
Game 4
Trinity 3, North Park 2 (8 innings)
WP: Lorscheider (7-5) • LP: Gonzalez-Villegas (0-1)
HR: TCC: Cianfriglia (1)
• The Trolls would score two in the 1st inning, on RBI singles from Halmon and McIntyre.
• A 4th inning rally for the Vikings would tie the game, as North Park posted two runs on two hits and an error.
• Trinity would have the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the 7th, but were unable to convert, extending the game to extra innings. After Lorscheider worked around a one-out base hit in the top of the 8th, Cianfriglia would end the game on a walk-off home run to left, giving the Trolls a 3-2 win.
