PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Men's Soccer opened the 2024 season in style on Thursday afternoon, earning a 2-0 victory over the Dordt (Iowa) Defenders at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
Team Leaders
• The first goal of the 2024 season game just six minutes into play, when Ismael Aguero's shot from a tight angle on the right side found the back of the net. Aguero finished the day with three shot attempts in 51 minutes on the pitch.
• With just over two minutes left to play, David Hernandez sealed the win for the Trolls (1-0), breaking loose from the left and firing a shot saved by the Dordt goalkeeper, but the rebound would spin back and cross the line for the sophomore's sixth career goal.
• Senior goalkeeper Giorgos Christodoulou picks up his 11th career clean sheet, making just one save on the day as the Trinity defense kept the Dordt attack at bay.
Match Notes
• The win marks the first time since 2021 that the Trolls opened a new season with a victory. Three years ago, Trinity took a 5-2 road win over Ohio Christian. Senior Logan McKendrick and assistant coach Emmanuel Iradukunda both scored in the win.
• The win is also the first over Dordt for the program since 2008, snapping a four-match losing streak against the Defenders.
• Aguero and Hernandez both pull even with Ivan Perez for six career goals in a Trinity uniform, most among active players.
Next Up
• The Trolls return to the Schaaf Athletic Complex on Saturday, as they host Midland (Neb.) for a non-conference matchup beginning at noon.
