Trolls take home win over St. Ambrose

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Snapping a seven-game slide, the Trolls got their first win over St. Ambrose since 2020 on Tuesday night, knocking off the Bees in four sets inside DeVos Gymnasium.

Sarah Neighbors led the way, scoring 12 kills while Alexis Bartz recorded her sixth double-double of the year, with 15 assists and 10 digs. Makenzie Ritsema had nine blocks, and Jorieliss Caraballo collected 17 digs on the back row.

The opening set was back-and-forth until an 8-1 run gave the visitors an 18-14 advantage. Kills from Aolani Cannon and Bartz closed the gap to one, but St. Ambrose went on to take the opener, 25-20.

Back-to-back kills from Neighbors in game two highlighted a 9-2 run that would give the Trolls a 16-10 lead. After a sideout for the Bees, Trinity reeled off six straight to double up the visitors, 22-11 and would go on to even the match with a 25-13 win.

Trinity would jump out to a 9-3 lead in game three, but St. Ambrose would battle back, eventually taking their first lead of the set at 14-13. Kills from Cannon and Sharide Sykes along with an ace from Bartz would fuel a five-point run to go up 18-14. The visitors would tie the game again with a three-point rally at 20-20, but two more Neighbors kills and blocks from Ritsema and Williams gave Trinity five of the last six points to take the game, 25-21.

The Trolls took control of the set in game four, running out to a 14-4 lead and staying in front the rest of the way. Ritsema's ace at 21-12 capped a run of five out of six straight points, as Trinity went on to take the set and win the match, 25-17.

Trinity will look to make it two wins in a row, when they host Mount Mary on Thursday night. Tipoff against the Blue Angels is set for 7:00 p.m.
