BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Sarah Neighbors led the way with 19 points, as Trinity Volleyball battled back from a two-set deficit, all the way to a five-set victory on the road Thursday night at Olivet Nazarene.
The match was the fourth in a row against Olivet to go the full five sets, and was the first in that stretch that resulted in a win for the Trolls, their first in two seasons over the Tigers.
Neighbors finished with a team-high 14 kills on the night, along with five service aces and 11 digs for her fourth double-double in the past five matches. Sharide Sykes and Alexis Bartz finished with 17 and 15 assists, respectively, while Sykes added a team-high 17 digs on defense.
After falling in the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-21, Trinity rallied in game three. The Trolls overcame a 23-21 deficit to score four in a row, highlighted by a kill from Dej'a Williams, and an ace from Bartz. Trinity then forced a fifth set by winning a dominant game four, using a 10-1 run midway through the set to take a 25-16 win.
The fifth set would see four lead changes before Trinity took control, using a 7-2 run to turn a two-point deficit at 5-3 into a three-point lead, 10-7. A solo block from Williams would end the night and give the Trolls their sixth win in the last eight matches, 15-12.
Trinity will look to continue the momentum when they return to DeVos Gymnasium on Saturday, and host Saint Xavier. First serve with the Coguars is set for 11:00 a.m.
