Trolls fall in CCAC opener at Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Sule Turkmen led the Trolls with 16 points as three players finished in double figures, but Trinity would struggle on the boards in a 71-56 road loss to open CCAC play at Viterbo on Wednesday night.

The Trolls would be out-rebounded by a 54-32 margin, leading to 21 second-chance points throughout the night for the V-Hawks. The home team would open an early lead, taking a 13-2 advantage after six and a half minutes into the first period.

Trinity would rally back, cutting the lead to 15-13 on Turkmen's three to close the first quarter, but Viterbo would get one more bucket to end the period to make it a four-point advantage.

After Adrianna De La  Rosa's three at the 8:06 mark of the second quarter that made it a 24-22 Viterbo lead, the V-Hawks would go on a 15-0 run over the next eight minutes, leading to a 39-24 score at the half.

The home team's lead would swell to 27 points in the third quarter, before Trinity had their highest-scoring period in the fourth to close the gap before the end of regulation. Rain McDaniel led the Trolls with eight fourth-quarter points on 4-of-4 shooting.

McDaniel finished with 15 points on the night, while De La Rosa recorded 14 points including four three-pointers. Destiney Cox finished with seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Trolls return to DeVos Gymnasium this weekend, when they host Taylor on Saturday afternoon; tipoff with the Trojans is set for 1:00 p.m.
