Trolls open CCAC play with road win over Saints

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Christian picked up the win in their CCAC opener on Wednesday night, going on the road to take a 75-69 victory over Holy Cross.

Two Trolls finished in double figures, with Brandon Adorno's 25 points leading the way. The senior would finish 7-for-13 from the floor, while going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Garrett Green tallied 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting while knocking down three three-pointers in the win along with a team-high eight rebounds.

A back-and-forth first half would see eight lead changes, but Trinity would pull away before going into halftime. A jumper from Greene, followed by a three from Adorno the next trip down the floor would give the Trolls a 32-23 edge with 4:25 on the clock. Greene would score two more times in the final 1:40, and Tylan Harris' three in the closing seconds put Trinity up 39-28 at the break.

The Saints would battle back in the second half, chipping away at the deficit and eventually tying the game at 52-52 at the 12:26 mark. Holy Cross would reclaim the lead with a pair of free throws, and later took a four-point lead for their largest advantage of the second half, 59-55 with 8:38 left to play.

A jumper from Wandy Munoz put Trinity back on top with 3:16 left, followed by a three from Ognjen Petkovic to put Trinity in front 69-65 with 2:35 remaining. The Trinity defense would hold Holy Cross to just one field goal over the final 4:37 to close out the win.

The Trolls return to DeVos Gymasium this weekend, looking for a 2-0 start in conference play, when they host St. Francis on Saturday, Nov. 21. Tipoff with the Saints is set for 3:00 p.m.
