CHICAGO, Ill. – The Trinity Men's Soccer season came to a heartbreaking end on Wednesday night, as the Trolls were unable to hold on to an early 2-0 lead and fell in extra time, 4-3, at Saint Xavier in the quarterfinals of the CCAC Tournament.
David Hernandez would put the Trolls in front early, with his tenth goal of the season coming in just the fourth minute of play. Less than 15 minutes later, Ismael Aguero would double the lead for Trinity, scoring a goal with the assist coming from J.P. Quaresma.
The host Cougars would strike back, scoring in the 29th minute and again in the 40th to even the score going into the halftime break.
In the 78th minute, Trinity would reclaim the lead after Rafael Torres' goal from Hernandez. Just a minute later Saint Xavier would find another equalizer, and the match would go into extra time.
With just over three minutes before the start of the penalty shootout, the Cougars would score again, ending the match in the 107th minute.
Goalkeeper Samuel Negus finished the match with a season-high 17 saves, as the back-and-forth battle would see a combined 50 shots taken between the two sides, and 34 shots on goal.
