MESA, Ariz. – The outside shooting from Danny Staskunas led the Trolls on Tuesday afternoon, but Trinity were unable to keep pace with the unbeaten Benedictine-Mesa (Ariz.) Redhawks in the first of two games in Arizona, 78-58.
Staskunas finished with a team-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range, as one of two players in double figures for the Trolls. Silas Spaulding scored ten points, going 3-for-3 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers on the day.
After the Redhawks opened with a small lead, Brandon Adorno would tie the game with a three-pointer near the 13-minute mark of the first half. Later in the period, Benedictine would hold the Trolls scoreless over three minutes, opening a 20-11 lead by the 8:24 mark.
The lead would briefly stretch to double-digits before a three from Spaulding would make it a 31-24 score at the break. Both teams would open the second half slowly, with no made field goals until the 16:43 mark. The Trolls would get to within four points, 43-39 on Garrett Greene's layup with 11:07 remaining, but Benedictine would answer with a 19-3 run over the next four minutes, pulling away down the stretch.
The Trolls will look to bounce back on Thursday, as they wrap up the road trip with a visit to Park-Gilbert (Ariz.). Tipoff is set for 4:00 pm CT.
