PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. & CHICAGO — Trinity Christian secured a pair of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victories this week, defeating Governors State 83-75 on Wednesday (Jan. 7) and Saint Xavier 106-97 in overtime on Saturday (Jan. 10).
Trinity Christian 83, Governors State 75 (Jan. 7)
Trinity Christian opened the game with a 9-6 lead before Governors State used a 14-0 run to take a 20-9 advantage with 12:52 remaining in the first half. The Trolls regained the lead at 34-33 with 4:26 left in the half following a three-point play by Wandy Munoz.
TCC closed the first half on a 6-1 run to take a 45-40 lead into the break.
Brandon Adorno opened the second half with a basket to push the lead to 47-40. Governors State trimmed the margin to six (62-56) with under 10 minutes to play, but Trinity Christian responded with six straight points to extend the lead to 12.
The Jaguars cut the deficit to four with under 2:30 remaining, but TCC closed out the contest to secure the 83-75 victory.
Adorno led all scorers with 24 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and from three-point range.
Trinity Christian 106, Saint Xavier 97 (OT) (Jan. 10)
Trinity Christian jumped out to a 9-2 lead, highlighted by six early points from Garrett Greene. Saint Xavier answered with five straight points to cut the deficit to two.
The Trolls extended the lead to 16-7 before the Cougars responded to tie the game. The teams traded leads throughout the remainder of the half before TCC took a 45-39 advantage with 50 seconds remaining.
Saint Xavier closed the half with a three-point play to make it 45-42 at the break. Corey George gave TCC a 63-59 lead with 13:42 left in the second half.
The Cougars took an 85-81 lead with two minutes remaining, but the Trolls answered to force overtime, highlighted by a three-point play from Adorno.
Trinity Christian controlled the overtime period, opening with an 8-2 run, including a four-point play by Tylan Harris with 2:41 remaining.
Four Trolls scored in double figures as TCC earned the 106-97 overtime victory. Adorno led the way with 28 points, Greene added 26, Harris finished with 20, and Aiden Cilladi recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The two wins move Trinity Christian to 8-8 overall and 5-3 in CCAC play.
