LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Conner Dargan led the Trolls with six hills, but the offense struggled in Trinity's home opener as the Trolls fell in straight sets to Mount Mercy, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 on Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Mustangs would lead the opening set wire-to-wire, jumping out to an 8-3 lead to start the match. Trailing 16-7, the Trolls would put together their best run of the set, scoring four of the next six including a pair of kills from Austin Risser, but Mount Mercy would take the opener comfortably as Trinity hit for negative attack percentage with eight errors in the set.
Game two would start in similar fashion, with Mount Mercy taking a 7-4 advantage to start. Trinity would bounce back with six of the next eight to take a 10-9 lead. The Mustangs regained the lead with a 7-1 run, and would stay in front the rest of the way.
After falling behind 10-3 to start game three, the Trolls would climb back in the game with a 7-2 run, highlighted by blocks from Zach Supanich, Sam Cain, and Dargan. Mount Mercy would end the run with a kill at 13-10, then pull away with a 12-4 run to close out the match.
Dargan led the Trolls with seven points on the day, while hitting for a .364 percentage. Samuel Kwan led the defense with a team-high five digs.
The Trolls will look to bounce back when they open conference play with a trip to Governors State on Tuesday, November 4. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
