PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Behind career highs from Kyla Smith and Miliana Martens, Trinity secured the season sweep over the Calumet Crimson Wave on Thursday night, in a 59-52 win inside DeVos Gymnasium.
Smith would record her first collegiate double-double in the win, with 27 points and 10 rebounds, on a night that included an 18-for-22 performance from the free throw line. Martens would come off the bench for a career-high 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting, along with a career-best six rebounds and three assists.
After leading throughout nearly all of the first half, the Trolls would go into the halftime break tied 23-23 as Calumet closed the second quarter on an 8-0 run. The visitors would briefly take a one-point advantage midway through the third quarter, before a run of seven unanswered points from the Trolls would put them back in front, 37-32 with 1:43 remaining in the third.
Trinity would control the game the rest of the way, leading in the fourth quarter by double digits before a late Calumet run closed the gap slightly.
The Trolls will look to continue the momentum this weekend, as they host Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, in Trinity's home season finale. Tipoff with the Tigers is set for 1:00 p.m.
