Trolls split season-opening doubleheader at Williams Baptist

PARAGOULD, Ark.  Logan Strutz registered nine strikeouts, as Trinity's opening day starter earned a shutout win in the Trolls' split doubleheader with Williams Baptist (Ark.).

The Trolls would earn a 2-0 win in the season opener, before falling in extra innings to the Eagles in game two, 4-3. Trinity would quickly take a lead in the first matchup, with Taiki Kondo's two-out RBI single in the top of the 2nd.

In the top of the 3rd, the Trolls doubled their lead when Carter Chaney singled and later scored on Anthony Cappelletti's sac fly.

Strutz would earn the win by throwing four and a third innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out nine. Ulysses Munoz earned his first save of the year with a perfect 7th.

In game two, the host Eagles would score runs in each of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings to build up a 3-0 lead. In their last at-bat, the Trolls would rally, scoring three runs on three hits to tie the game. Brian Huttner would drive in a run by drawing a bases-loaded walk, and Chaney's sac fly scored Preston Vowell to even the score.

Going into extra innings, Williams Baptist would earn the split with a walk-off two-out base hit for the 4-3 win.

The Trolls will now prepare for a four-game series next weekend, when they travel to Huntington (Ind.) beginning on Friday, February 21.
