Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Trolls fall in closing minutes at St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Trinity would hold a lead for about 34 minutes of the regular season finale on Saturday, but a late push from the home team would lead to a 78-72 loss for the Trolls on the road at St. Ambrose.

Opening with an early 5-0 lead behind scores from Danny Staskunas and Chris Cross, Trinity would lead throughout the first half. Cross would hit a three at the 5:10 mark of the first half, giving the Trolls their largest lead of the day, 29-16. St. Ambrose would rally before the halftime break, pulling back to within five points, 35-30 at the half.

A quick 7-0 run capped by a three-point play from Tylan Harris would push the Trinity advantage back up to nine, 44-35 with 16:34 remaining, but the Trolls were unable to reclaim their earlier double-digit advantage.

After a Staskunas three at the 13:25 mark, the Trolls would go cold, with just one field goal over the next five minutes. St. Ambrose would even the score at 54-54 at the 8:36 mark, and take their first lead of the game with a pair of free throws with 5:40 left to play, 62-61.

A steal and fast-break layup from Harris would put the Trolls on top, 67-66 with 2:43 left, but the Bees reclaimed the lead on their next trip down the floor. St. Ambrose would convert key free throws down the stretch to build a lead in the final seconds to secure the win.

Garrett Greene led the Trolls with a game-high 20 points, along with a team-leading seven rebounds. Three Trolls finished in double figures, including Staskunas with 16 points, and Cross with 12.

Trinity closes out the 2024-25 season with an 8-20 record, improving by two wins from a year ago, and a 5-15 conference record, four wins better than the previous season.
