Trolls suffer doubleheader sweep against Viterbo

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Baseball would close out the four-game set with Viterbo on Tuesday afternoon, falling in both ends of a doubleheader at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.

The Trolls dropped the opener 9-5, as the visiting V-Hawks used a seven-run sixth inning to break open a 2-2 tie late in the game. Hector Mendoza led the Trolls with two RBI and a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, while Omar Wright went 2-for-4 with a run and Taiki Kondo finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Game two would also be a close game late, before Viterbo posted three runs in the top of the 8th to help secure the sweep. Shane Jones had a strong outing, finishing 3-for-6 and coming up just a home run shy of the cycle, with three runs scored. Kondo went 3-for-5 after a solid game one, while Mendoza and Wright each finished with two more base hits in the second game.

The Trolls are back in action on Wednesday, when they step outside of CCAC play to take on Purdue Northwest (Ind.). First pitch from Hammond, Ind. is set for 1:30 p.m.
