PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Ricardo Serpa earned his third career tournament win on Tuesday, as Trinity Golf made their spring debut, with a pair of tournaments for both men's and women's squads. The men's team took on Saint Xavier in the annual Cal-Sag Cup, while the women competed in the Battle at the Creek at Nettle Creek C.C., before both teams played in the Clash at Cinder, hosted by Olivet Nazarene at Cinder Ridge C.C. on Monday and Tuesday.
Ricardo Serpa and Yanis Toinard picked up wins in the match-play Cal-Sag Cup, but the Trolls would fall to the Cougars 4-2 on the day. Serpa would have the biggest win of the event, winning 6&5 in his individual matchup. Toinard would pick up his win 2&1, with two other Trolls falling in their matches on the 18th hole.
On Monday, Serpa would shoot a 76 (+4) in the first round of the Clash at Cinder, before rallying for a 70 (-2) on Tuesday to climb to the top of the leaderboard. The win is the first of the season for Serpa, and his third top-five finish of the year.
As a team, the Trinity men would finish 8th, shooting a team score of 340-327-667 (+91). Toinard would place T-25th, shooting identical scores of 86 to finish at +22.
On the women's side, Delaney Bullington would lead the Trolls at both events, finishing T-6th at the Battle at the Creek, with a round of 93 (+22), for her second top ten finish of the year. Bullington would be the top finisher for Trinity at the Clash at Cinder, with a two-round score of +71.
The Trolls will wrap up the regular season, when they compete at Randall Oaks G.C. for the Judson Invitational. The men's tournament tees off on Monday, April 14, with the women's event set to take place on Tuesday, April 15.
