PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Christian earned a historic result at the Schaaf Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon, battling to a 1-1 draw with No. 22 Rio Grande (Ohio). The tie marks the Trolls' first result against a nationally ranked opponent since 2007.
The Trolls (1-0-1) struck first in the 38th minute, when David Hernandez finished off a pass from J.P. Quaresma to put the hosts in front. The visitors (1-0-1) found the equalizer in the 82nd minute to level the match.
Roberto Navarro recorded five saves in goal, as Trinity withstood a 14-6 shots disadvantage (7-4 on frame). The Trolls also generated late pressure, including a 79th-minute effort from Ivan Perez that hit the post, while the visitors held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Trinity returns to action on Wednesday, Aug. 27, when they host St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.). Kickoff with the Pomeroys is set for 4:00 p.m.
