Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Trolls sweep Calumet for second CCAC win of the week

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Volleyball made it two in a row on Thursday night, as the Trolls picked up their second straight CCAC victory, this time in straight sets over Calumet, 25-13, 25-15, 25-22.

Sharide Sykes led the way with her third double-double of the season, collecting 14 assists with 10 digs on the night. Dej'a Williams led the Trolls in scoring, with nine kills to go with three total blocks.

Trinity would lead the opening set wire-to-wire, managing a small early lead until kills from Raimey Owens and Makenzie Ritsema started an 8-2 run that put the Trolls ahead 15-9. Finishing with six of the last seven points, the Trolls took the first set after a kill from Alli Koepkey set up Sarah Neighbors to get the service ace to clinch the win.

Game two would see the visitors in front early, 4-2, but a five-point run highlighted by two kills apiece from Williams and Aalyssa Gunn gave Trinity a 7-4 advantage. The Trolls would pull away in the middle of the set, using an 11-1 run to build a 22-10 lead. Calumet would respond with a 5-2 run of their own, but a pair of service errors would give Trinity their 24th and 25th points to take the set.

The Trolls jumped out to a 12-3 lead in game three in search of the sweep, and would remain in control the rest of the way. Using a five-point run to go up 23-16, the Trolls would give up five straight points to Calumet, but kills from Gunn and Ritsema ended the night with the victory.

Trinity will take the weekend off before getting back into conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when the Trolls head west to take on St. Ambrose. First serve with the Fighting Bees is set for 7:00 p.m.
