GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Trinity Volleyball opened the weekend at the Cornerstone/Aquinas Invite on Friday evening, falling in straight sets to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
The Trolls would open with a back-and-forth run with the Blue Raiders, who were receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, closing the gap at 6-5 with an ace from Gianna Dimundo. Lindsey Wilson pulled away from there, scoring an 8-3 run to go up 14-8 and later closed out the first set by scoring 10 of the last 13 for a 25-14 final.
Trinity would lead in game two, after kills from Raimey Owens and Sharide Sykes put the Trolls in front 12-11. Lindsey Wilson again pulled way with a big rally, using a 14-3 run to go on to secure the second set 25-19.
The Blue Raiders would lead the early portions of game three, before the Trolls responded in the middle of the set. Trinity would go on a 7-2 run, highlighted by three straight blocks from four different Trolls, to close the gap to 16-14. A kill from Zoe Klaus cut the Blue Raider lead down to 19-18, but Lindsey Wilson would close out the win by scoring six of the final seven points to take the set 25-19.
Dej'a Williams led the Troll offense with seven kills, and Andria Ewalt recorded a team-high six digs.
The Trolls are back in action tomorrow, when they take on Cumberlands (Tenn.) at 10:00 am CT, and #24 Aquinas (Mich.) at 2:00 pm CT.
