ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Trinity Christian softball team began its 2026 season at the NAIA Leadoff Invitational hosted at the Rosemont Dome this weekend. The Trolls played two games Friday (Feb. 13) and two Saturday (Feb. 14).
Rochester Christian 7, Trinity Christian 6
Trinity Christian jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after
Lauryn Packard doubled to center, scoring
Alana Harlow and
Caitlin Hernandez. Anna Fluder extended the lead to 3-0 with a single that scored Packard.
Rochester Christian responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 3-3. The Trolls answered immediately with three runs in the next half inning to regain a 6-3 advantage.
Halie LaGrange scored on a throwing error by the Rochester Christian catcher to make it 4-3. Packard continued her strong performance with an RBI single that scored
Jessica Pleckham, and
Ashley Plapp followed with a double to score Packard and make it 6-3.
Rochester Christian controlled the remainder of the game, holding the Trolls scoreless the rest of the way. Rochester added one run in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to secure the win.
Indiana Southeast 10, Trinity Christian 9 (11 innings)
Indiana Southeast scored the first two runs of the game in the opening inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Trinity Christian responded with two runs in the third inning after Hernandez drove in
Ava Valk on a groundout and Harlow brought home Pleckham with a single.
The Grenadiers added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Trinity cut the deficit to one in the fifth when Hernandez again drove in Valk with a groundout.
The Trolls tied the game at 5-5 in the sixth inning after Valk singled home
Ariana Ikis and
Alana Buchanan reached on an error that allowed
Peyton Lowden to score. Indiana Southeast responded in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead, 6-5.
Trinity scored three straight runs — one in the seventh on an RBI single by Fluder and two in the ninth after Packard doubled to score Hernandez and Plapp singled home Packard. Indiana Southeast forced extra innings by scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Both teams scored in the 10th inning. Pleckham singled to left field to score Lowden. Indiana Southeast walked off in the 11th inning to secure the 10-9 victory.
Lawrence Tech 11, Trinity Christian 0
Trinity Christian was unable to generate offense against the Blue Devils. Pleckham led the Trolls with two hits in the game.
