UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. -- The Trinity Christian College men's basketball team fell to top-seeded and regular-season champion Governors State University 73-69 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals Friday (Feb. 27).
Three players scored in double figures for the Trolls, led by Garrett Greene with 23 points. Tylan Harris added 16 points and Ognjen Petkovic finished with 10.
Governors State jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first five minutes. Petkovic ended the drought for TCC with a 3-pointer at the 14:40 mark.
The Jaguars led 19-11 with 9:17 remaining in the first half. The Trolls responded with seven straight points, including a basket from Wandy Munoz and a 3-pointer from Greene, to pull within one at 19-18 with 6:39 to play.
GSU answered with an 8-1 run over the next four minutes to take a 27-20 lead with 2:48 left in the half. Jaiden Gilzene converted a basket, and Harris knocked down a 3-pointer as Trinity Christian trailed 31-25 at the break.
Greene cut the deficit to three at 33-30 with a 3-pointer to open the second half. Governors State later pushed its lead to 12 at 44-32 with 14:28 remaining.
Trinity Christian used a 21-7 run over a seven-minute stretch to take a 53-51 lead with 7:41 left, capped by a layup from Greene. Both teams traded baskets down the stretch until GSU took a three-point advantage.
Greene hit a clutch 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining to tie the game at 63-63. Neither team scored again in regulation, sending the contest to overtime.
Petkovic converted a three-point play with 2:55 remaining in overtime, giving the Trolls a 66-65 lead, but it proved to be their final advantage. Governors State responded with five straight points to take a 70-66 lead with 48 seconds left.
Harris knocked down a 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to one at 70-69, but that would be Trinity Christian's final points. The Jaguars scored the last three to secure the 73-69 victory.

The Trolls also earned multiple individual honors throughout the year.
Seven players were named CCAC All-Academic: Garrett Greene, Chris Henthorn, Quinton Hunter, John Kveck, Ognjen Petkovic, Jacob Spaulding, Silas Spaulding.
Senior guard Tylan Harris recorded his 1,000th career point on February 7.Â
On four separate occasions, the Trolls earned CCAC weekly honors. Aiden Cilladi was selected as CCAC Defensive Player of the Week Three Times, Garrett Greene was named conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Additionally, the team earned honors from @naia_hoopsreport multiple occasions. In a week where the Trolls earned victories over Governors State and Saint Xavier, the team was named offensive team of the week.Â
Cilladi also picked up a pair of NAIA Hoops Report Honors,Â
an Onions Award for a game-winning shot against IU South Bend and sophomore of the week for his near triple-double average during the final week of the regular season.Â
