PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The Trinity Christian softball team swept a doubleheader against Grace Christian University, with both games lasting five innings. The Trolls won the opener 9-1 and took the second game 10-2.
GAME 1: Trinity Christian 9, Grace Christian 1 (5 innings)
Trinity Christian scored the first nine runs of the contest to take a 9-0 lead.
Jessica Pleckham scored on an error to give the Trolls an early 1-0 advantage.
The Trolls erupted for six runs in the second inning. Pleckham drove in Halie LaGrange with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
Ariana Ikis scored after a miscue by Grace Christian University, extending the lead to 3-0. Pleckham later scored on Lauryn Packard's RBI double to center, making it 4-0.
Anna Lisa Fluder drove in Packard with an RBI single for a 5-0 lead. Fluder and Ashley Plapp both scored on a wild pitch to extend the advantage to 7-0.
Packard added another RBI double in the third, scoring Pleckham. Fluder followed with an RBI single to bring home Packard and push the lead to 9-0.
Grace Christian scored once in the fifth, but the Trolls closed it out for a 9-1 win via the mercy rule.
GAME 2: Trinity Christian 10, Grace Christian 2 (5 innings)
Trinity Christian scored the first five runs of the contest — all in the second inning.
Alana Harlow drove in
Ashley Plapp with an RBI single to make it 1-0.
Jessica Pleckham drew a bases-loaded walk to score Peyton Lowden for a 2-0 lead. Ava Valk reached on a fielding error that allowed Harlow to score, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Lauryn Packard also drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing home Pleckham, and Anna Lisa Fluder followed with an RBI single to score Halie LaGrange and make it 5-0.
The Tigers scored their only two runs of the game in the third to cut the deficit to 5-2.
The Trolls answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. Lowden touched them all with a two-run home run over the left-field fence, scoring Plapp to push the lead to 7-2.
LaGrange added an RBI double to drive in Madison Seymour for an 8-2 lead. Trinity Christian tacked on two more runs in the fifth to secure a 10-2 walk-off victory.
Valk drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 9-2, and Packard delivered the game-winning RBI with a single that scored Pleckham.
