PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. — The Trinity Christian men's volleyball team earned its first victory of the season Friday (Feb. 6), sweeping Maranatha Baptist 3–0. C.J. Lafin led the Trolls with 10 kills and five digs in the win.
Set 1: Trinity Christian 25, MBU 15
Trinity Christian jumped out to a quick 8–2 advantage to open the match and extended the lead to 12–4 following a kill from Juvantae Thompson and a service ace by Sam Cain.
Maranatha attempted to rally and cut the deficit to 14–8, but the Trolls answered with three straight points, highlighted by kills from Lafin and Cain. Trinity Christian controlled the remainder of the set and secured a 25–15 win.
Set 2: Trinity Christian 25, MBU 18
The Trolls opened the second set with a 3–0 run, fueled by kills from Lafin and two from Cain. Although the Sabercats threatened to take the lead later in the set, Trinity Christian stayed in control.
TCC pushed its advantage to 12–7 after a kill from Daniel Whaley. Maranatha closed within two at 16–14, but the Trolls responded with three consecutive points, including kills from Cain, Danny Staskunas, and Lafin. Cain finished the set with a kill as Trinity Christian took the second set, 25–18.
Set 3: Trinity Christian 25, MBU 17
Trinity Christian carried its momentum into the final set, building an early 4–1 lead. Maranatha cut the margin to 7–5, but the Trolls answered with an 8–1 run to take a commanding 15–6 advantage.
Kills from Vinnie Arias and Evan Whaley extended the lead to 22–13. The Sabercats scored three straight points, but the outcome was no longer in doubt. Arias sealed the match with a kill, giving Trinity Christian a 25–17 set win and the 3–0 sweep.
