WHITING, Ind. -- The Trinity Christian College baseball team split a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Olivet Nazarene at Oil City Stadium on Wednesday (March 18). The Tigers won the opener 3-1 in 12 innings before the Trolls responded with a 3-2 victory in Game 2.

Trinity Christian took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after
Hector Mendoza drove in
Shane Jones with an RBI double. Olivet Nazarene threatened in the third after loading the bases, but Trolls pitcher
Ethan Collins escaped the jam with a flyout.
The Trolls held the Tigers scoreless through the first five innings before ONU broke through in the sixth. After loading the bases, Olivet Nazarene tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single.
Taiki Kondo led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to left field, but Trinity Christian was unable to capitalize. The Trolls had another opportunity in the eighth after loading the bases, but ONU induced a groundout to escape the inning.
Olivet Nazarene broke the tie in the 12th inning, scoring two runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Tigers then retired the side in order in the bottom half to secure the extra-inning victory.
GAME 2: Trinity Christian 3, Olivet Nazarene 2
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings before Olivet Nazarene took a 1-0 lead in the fourth following a Trinity Christian fielding error.
Jones tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the left-field wall. He continued his strong performance in the fifth, delivering a two-run double that scored Benson Holleman and Kondo to give the Trolls a 3-1 lead.
Olivet Nazarene added a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-2, but that would be as close as it would get.
Matthew Toledo (2-2) earned the complete-game victory, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings while walking two and striking out five.

Trinity Christian returns to action with a four-game series against St. Ambrose on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, at the Schaaf Athletic Complex. The Fighting Bees will serve as the home team Friday, with the Trolls as the home team Saturday.
