PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The Trinity Christian College men's volleyball team put up a strong fight at home against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Viterbo but ultimately fell 3-1 at DeVos Gym Thursday (March 5). Juvantae Thompson led the way for the Trolls with a double-double after recording 16 kills and 13 digs.

SET 1: Viterbo 25, Trinity Christian 18
Viterbo jumped out to an early 5-1 lead to start the contest. Trinity Christian responded with back-to-back points, including a kill from Thompson and an ace from Conner Dargan.
Moments later, the V-Hawks extended their lead to 23-14 with a commanding advantage in the set. The Trolls looked to get back in the set after picking up three straight points, but Viterbo was able to close it out and win the set 25-18.
SET 2: Viterbo 26, Trinity Christian 24
Thompson started the second set with a kill for an early lead. Viterbo responded with five straight points for a 5-1 advantage.
The V-Hawks held the advantage for most of the set, but back-to-back kills from Evan Whaley and Thompson made it a one-point game at 17-16. Viterbo used another rally to pull ahead 21-17.
Trinity Christian responded with six straight points for a 23-21 lead late in the set. However, Viterbo answered with a 5-1 spurt to close the set and win it 26-24 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 3: Trinity Christian 25, Viterbo 22
Both teams went back and forth to start the set before Sam Cain recorded a kill to make it 5-4 in favor of the V-Hawks. Viterbo then scored four straight points to pull ahead 9-4.
Trinity Christian used a later rally to take a 13-12 lead after a kill and block from Dargan. Both teams traded runs until the set was tied 20-20.
The Trolls held the upper hand the rest of the way after going on a 5-2 run to close the set, including kills from Dargan, Thompson and Cain, to win it 25-22.
SET 4: Viterbo 25, Trinity Christian 19
Trinity Christian jumped out to an early 3-2 lead before Viterbo scored three straight points for a 5-3 advantage. The Trolls responded with six consecutive points, including a block from C.J. Lafin, to make it 9-5.
The V-Hawks answered with a 9-2 rally, giving them a 14-11 lead midway through the set. Viterbo did not give up the lead after that point.
Trinity Christian looked to rally late in the set after cutting the deficit to 20-17 in favor of the V-Hawks. Viterbo closed out the set and the match on a 5-2 run to win it 25-19 and take the match 3-1.
