Trinity Christian Baseball Opens Conference Play With Split Against Viterbo Sunday

CRESTWOOD, Ill. -- The Trinity Christian College baseball team started Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Sunday (March 8) as the Trolls took on Viterbo in a doubleheader. The Trolls won game one 3-1 and in game two the V-Hawks won 3-2.

GAME 1: Trinity Christian 4, Viterbo 2
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings. Viterbo got on the scoreboard first with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

Trinity Christian responded with one run right back in the next half inning, tying it at 1-1 after Ty Chaney Jr. reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Jayden Hamilton after a V-Hawk error. 

The Trolls added two more in the sixth inning after Brodie Mayberry connected on a two-run shot to left field, making it 3-1. Viterbo got one back in the bottom half of the inning making it 3-2. 

TCC responded with the run right back in the top of the seventh after Mario Jiminez drove home Hector Mendoza with an RBI single making it 4-2. 

Brendan Fleming pitched 5.2 innings, giving up five hits, allowing two runs, and striking out two. 

GAME 2:  Viterbo 3, Trinity Christian 2
Both teams were once again scoreless through the first three innings of the second contest of the day. Mayberry continued his big day at the plate in the fourth inning after Ty Chaney Jr. and Hector Mendoza drew walks. He drove both runners home with a two-run double to right-center field to give the Trolls a 2-0 lead.

Viterbo got one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. The V-Hawks then scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run home run to take a 3-2 advantage.

Silas Noe (2-1) took the loss after pitching 4.1 innings, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out two.

These two teams conclude their series Monday, March 9 with a doubleheader at Schaaf Athletic Complex in Palos Heights, Illinois starting at noon. NOTE: Viterbo is the home team in this series.
