Trinity Christian Men's Volleyball Puts Up A Fight; Falls in Four to St. Ambrose Saturday

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The Trinity Christian College men's volleyball team battled through four competitive sets Saturday (March 7) but fell 3-1 to visiting St. Ambrose. Juvantae Thompson led the way with 12 kills.

SET 1: St. Ambrose 25, Trinity Christian 18
Trinity Christian led 6-5 early in the set after kills from Thompson, C.J. Lafin and Danny Staskunas. St. Ambrose responded with four straight points to take a 9-6 lead.

A block from Lafin and Daniel Whaley cut the deficit to 10-8, but that was the closest Trinity Christian got the rest of the way. The Fighting Bees outscored the Trolls 15-10 the rest of the set to win it 25-18.

SET 2: St. Ambrose 25, Trinity Christian 23
Lafin gave the Trolls an early 7-6 lead after recording a kill. Both teams went back and forth until St. Ambrose went ahead 24-20.

The Trolls tried to rally after recording three straight points, including kills from Thompson and Lafin, to make it 24-23 in favor of the Fighting Bees. St. Ambrose closed out the set with a kill to win it 25-23.

SET 3: Trinity Christian 25, St. Ambrose 15
Trinity Christian jumped out to an early 5-1 lead after a triple block at the net from Sam Cain, Thompson and Whaley. St. Ambrose tried to rally and cut the deficit to 10-8.

Trinity Christian put the set out of reach after recording three straight points, including an ace from Caden Figus, to make it 18-12.

The Trolls closed out the third set with back-to-back points, including a kill from Evan Whaley.

SET 4: St. Ambrose 25, Trinity Christian 22
Trinity Christian led 8-6 early in the set before St. Ambrose regained the lead after scoring three straight points for a 9-8 advantage.

St. Ambrose extended its lead to 18-12 after back-to-back points, its largest advantage of the set, and never looked back. Back-to-back points by the Trolls cut the deficit to 23-21, but the Fighting Bees held them off to win the set 25-22.

Trinity Christian will be back in action Friday, March 13, as the Trolls host Aquinas College for a nonconference contest at 7 p.m. CT.
