Rob Prohaska ‘04 will begin his seventh season as the head coach of the Trolls men’s volleyball program in 2024, after serving as an assistant coach for two seasons. Prohaska brings a wealth of volleyball experience as he was involved in the sport as a player or coach for the past 24 years.
Prohaska holds a career record of 84-64, and is the winningest coach in the program's history.
Last season, Prohaska's Trolls won the NCCAA National Invitational championship, the program's first national tournament title of any kind. The Trolls went on to finish 17-11, recording a record number of victories in a single season.
In 2020, his team’s season was shortened due to COVID-19, but the team was expected to finish in the top four in their conference. They ended with an overall record of 13-9 and a conference record of 5-4. He had three all-conference selections and a Co-CCAC Libero of the Year. His team also finished in the top 10 in the NAIA in four categories, including total blocks (fourth), total service aces (fourth), blocks per game (10th) and total assists (10th).
During the 2019 season, his team led the conference in blocks. He also an all-conference selection and the CCAC Freshman of the year.
In his first season at the helm of the program, he led the team in its third varsity season to a 10-16 record.
As a coach, he led teams at the high school and club level. He coached at Second City and Adrenaline volleyball clubs and was the head boys’ 18U coach for Division One Volleyball Club.
He served as an assistant coach for the boys’ team at Marist High School for five seasons from 2008-12. During his time there, the team earned four conference championships, three regional championships, two sectional championships, an IHSA state quarterfinal appearance, and a state championship title.
Prohaska played for Trinity in the 2001 and 2003 seasons and ranks in the top 10 in the records book in total kills and blocks. Before Trinity, he competed for two seasons at Moraine Valley Community College where he earned Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player honors. In addition, Prohaska was a four-year student-athlete at Marist High School and received all-conference and all-state honorable mention recognition. He also played for Second City Volleyball Club for four years.
He graduated from Trinity in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He earned his master’s degree in school counseling from Concordia University. Prohaska is currently working as a licensed professional counselor. He lives with his wife and three children in Palos Heights, Illinois.
