Box Score 2 The Trinity baseball team traveled to the Missouri Valley College Vikings to play their first double header of the season. After those two games, the Trolls were unable to come out with any wins.
In the first game of the double header, the Trolls were off to a rough start. The Vikings scored nine runs in the first four innings compared to the Trolls, who scored none. But in the sixth inning, Trinity came out and scored eight runs. The Vikings then scored another run to end the first game 8-10 in favor of Missouri Valley.
Sophomore Joe Kabbes led Trinity's offense by scoring two runs while junior Will Kulcher, senior Sam Herzog, senior Brandon Riemersma, freshman Hunter Slaats, senior Liam Blake and senior Frank Romano all scored one run. Riemersma recorded the most RBI's with three.
Once the second game started, the Trolls let up a run in both the first and second innings. But they were able to come back in the fourth to register four runs to grab a 4-2 lead. The Vikings grabbed two more runs into in the fifth to tie it up.
The Trolls then took the lead at the top of the sixth to make the score 5-4. Once Missouri Valley went back to the plate, they scored eight runs to grab a 12-5 lead over Trinity. No one else scored a run in the game, ultimately leading to a win for the Vikings.
In this contest, all five runs were scored by different Trolls including Kulcher, senior Josh Caceres, junior Matt Burke, senior Alex Gerhardt and senior Morgan Nowitzki. Freshman Michael Moralez was also able to contribute two RBI's. Junior Jordan Petty pitched the first five innings, recording five strikeouts.
The Trolls will compete in another double header against Missouri Valley again tomorrow, Feb. 22. The first game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
