Box Score 2 The Trinity baseball team played their first double header of the RussMatt Invitational today as they faced the Cornerstone University Eagles. After playing two contests, the Trolls ended the day going 1-1.
In the first, Trinity grabbed the early lead, scoring a run in the fourth. From there, the Eagles scored two runs in the sixth to try and take the lead, which caused the Trolls to retaliate with two more runs. From there, Cornerstone scored one more in the seventh to tie the game, but on a walk off strikeout form a wild pitch, the Trolls were able to secure a 4-3 win in the seventh.
Seniors scored all of the runs for Trinity today including Sam Herzog, Brandon Riemersma, Morgan Nowitzki and Frank Romano. On the mound for Trinity was junior Dan Vos, who pitched all seven innings. He struck out nine batters out of the 32 he faced.
Shortly after that game ended, the Trolls started another contest against the Eagles. Cornerstone came out strong from the start, recording seven runs in the first three innings. From there, the Eagles prevented the Trolls from scoring more than three runs, resulting in a 3-10 loss for Trinity.
Senior Sam Herzog scored a run in this game, as well, along with freshman Hunter Slaats and redshirt sophomore Brent Norkus. Slaats and Norkus both recorded RBI's along with freshman Tyler Petersen.
The Trolls now have an overall record of 1-5. They will be back in action again tomorrow as they play a double header against Trinity Baptist. The first game is scheduled for noon Eastern time.
