Box Score Joliet, Ill. - Trinity Christian College baseball (4-10, 0-1 CCAC) opened the season at Duly Field against University of St. Francis (Ill.)(5-15, 1-0 CCAC) on Wednesday afternoon and fell 10-4. The Trolls were the home team because the game was originally scheduled to be played at St. Francis. Due to field conditions, the game was moved to Joliet.
Coming off his CCAC Player of the Week award, junior Mike Moralez went 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI. The Trolls got a great performance out of their bullpen. Junior Josh Bakke went 2.1 innings without allowing an earned run.
St. Francis scored a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to take the lead. The Trolls responded though with Jordan Veldman hitting into a fielder's choice and we were tied at one after one. After St. Francis took a 2-1 lead in the second, Veldman came back with another RBI in the third inning on a single to score sophomore Oli Carmody.
St. Francis held a 6-2 lead in the fifth when Moralez singled to score a run and make it 6-3.
The Trolls tacked on one more run in the seventh on another Veldman single. He went 2-for-5 with three RBIs on the day.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Carmody went 4-for-5 to pace the top of the Trinity lineup. He also scored three runs.
- The Trolls outhit St. Francis, 13-12.
UP NEXT: Trinity Christian College will return to Schaaf Athletic Complex on Thursday, March 16th at 12:00 p.m. to face St. Ambrose University in a doubleheader.
