Trinity comes back from 6-0 deficit to win thriller

Box Score

Palos Heights, Ill. - Trinity Christian College baseball (5-11, 1-2 CCAC) needed a huge rally to take the first game of their doubleheader against St. Ambrose (10-5, 1-1 CCAC) on Thursday afternoon. With March Madness in full swing, the Trolls offense decided to take part in the chaos. Trinity scored one run in the sixth, four runs in the seventh and two more runs in the ninth inning as sophomore Oli Carmody singled to score the tying and winning runs.

After their big win in game one, Trinity fell in the second game, 14-5. Despite trailing 11-1, Trinity made it a game at 11-5 but ultimately fell in the seven inning game.

Carmody played the hero in game one. He hit leadoff and smacked three hits to go with his two RBIs. Trinity loaded the bases in the ninth inning. Junior Tyler Petersen walked, sophomore Miles Williams bunted for a single and freshman Thomas Schaaf reached first on a fielding error. Carmody didn't waste anytime delivering the games biggest hit.

The Trolls used a huge home run to get back into the game down 6-1. Junior Nick Andersen hit a three-run homer for the Trolls. Junior Adam Herron lifted the Trinity bullpen. He went two scoreless innings for the Trolls to earn the win.

In the second game of the doubleheader, St. Ambrose took advantage of four Trinity errors. The Bees had 15 hits and a five-run first inning was the catalyst for a big game.

Junior Mike Moralez had a solo home run in the first inning to give the Trolls the lead. Trinity got a second home run on the day for Nick Andersen and Williams hit one as well but the Trolls couldn't overcome the deficit.

NOTES & NUMBERS:

  • Moralez, coming off his player of the week award, went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in game two. He went 1-for-3 in the first game.
  • Andersen has now hit four home runs on the season.
