Box Score 2 Joliet, Ill. - Trinity Christian College baseball (11-21, 7-12 CCAC) went down to Duly Field to face St. Francis (Ill.) (19-21, 15-6 CCAC) for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Trolls scored just three runs over two games as they dropped both games of the doubleheader by finals of 8-0 and 9-3.
Saint Francis put together a seven-inning shutout in game one and allowed only four Trinity hits. Starting pitcher Nick Villasenor allowed one hit over five innings to earn the win for St. Francis. The Saints led 2-0 after three innings, but scored five times in the fourth to run away with it. The game was played in a speedy one hour and 29 minutes.
In the second game, Trinity took the first lead of the game in the second inning. The Trolls scored two runs when junior Hunter Slaats singled to score sophomore Miles Williams and Oli Carmody.
After St. Francis snagged a run back in the third inning, they tied the game in the fifth inning on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly scored another run in the inning and St. Francis led 3-2. Junior Mike Moralez was able to tie the game in the sixth inning. A groundout scored a run and it was even at three.
That would be the last run of the day for the Trolls. St. Francis scored three times in the sixth, twice in the seventh and one more run in the eighth inning to take home the doubleheader sweep.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Junior Jordan Veldman went 1-for-3 in game one and came back with a 2-for-4 game in the second of the doubleheader. Veldman also scored a run. He was the only Trolls with a multi-hit game on the day.
- Hunter Slaats went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk in the second game.
