Trinity clinches home postseason match with win over Cougars

CHICAGO, Ill. – David Hernandez scored twice, and Ismael Aguero added in his third goal of the season, as Trinity secured home field advantage for the first round of the CCAC Tournament with a 3-0 win at Saint Xavier on Saturday afternoon.

The win secures the No. 4 seed for next week's conference tournament, giving the Trolls (8-6-3, 6-4-1 CCAC) their first home playoff match of any kind since 2008.

Hernandez put the Trolls in front early, scoring his fourth goal of the season in the third minute. Ivan Perez would be credited with an assist on the goal, then Ismael Aguero doubled Trinity's lead in the 22nd minute, with assists from Elijah DenBleyker and Lucas Vilela.

After scoring two goals on five shots in the first half, the Trolls put the match away in the 62nd minute, when Hernandez found the back of the net again. Goalkeeper Giorgos Christodoulou earned the shared shutout with Zach Coppin after 78 minutes in goal, with saves on the only two shots on goal from the Cougars (8-6-4, 6-5 CCAC) throughout the day.

The Trolls will host Saint Xavier in a rematch to open the CCAC Tournament, scheduled for Friday, November 3 at the Schaaf Athletic Complex, with the game time to be announced later this week.
