CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Oliver Carmody collected eight base hits over the four-game season-opening series, as Trinity Baseball started the 2023 season by taking one of four against Thomas More (Ky.) on Thursday and Friday.

Carmody finished with a .571 batting average for the series, going 8-for-14 with three RBI, two doubles, and a triple. On the mound, Matt Ostrowski picked up the first win of the year for the Trolls (1-3), going 1-1 over two starting appearances and five innings for a 1.80 ERA.

Game 1: Thomas More 12, Trinity 3

A triple from Carmody followed by a double by Jordan Veldman in the 3rd inning led to the first two runs of the season, but Thomas More (4-3) would collect 12 runs on 15 hits for a dominant series-opening win. A home run from Hunter Slaats in the top of the 7th would finish out the scoring for the Trolls.

Game 2: Thomas More 11, Trinity 10

Two runs in the bottom of the 7th resulted in a walk-off win for the home team, after the Trolls rallied with a six-run comeback in the late innings.

Trinity took a 4-0 lead in the top of the 2nd, with a two-run Brock Bolser RBI double, followed by a run-scoring wild pitch and fielders choice. The Saints would take the lead with two runs in the 3rd, and a seven-run outburst in the 4th.

Anthony Cappelletti went 4-for-4 at the plate, and his RBI double along with an RBI base hit from Nick Andersen closed the deficit, allowing for Michael Moralez's go-ahead home run in the top of the 6th. In the bottom of the 7th however, the first four batters would reach base, resulting in a game-winning sacrifice fly to give the Saints the doubleheader sweep on Thursday.

Game 3: Trinity 2, Thomas More 0

A combined shutout between pitchers Ostrowski, Josh Bakke, and Logan Strutz gave the Trolls their first win of the season with just four base hits allowed.

An RBI single from Cappelletti in the 3rd put the Trolls on the board, and an RBI groundout from Veldman would double the lead for the visitors. Strutz secured the win and earned the first save of the year by pitching three scoreless innings, while scattering two hits and striking out three.

Game 4: Thomas More 7, Trinity 6

Trinity would take the lead with the second at-bat of the game, and remain in front until the bottom of the 7th, as the Saints would secure another walk-off win with four runs in the last inning.

Carmody went 3-for-4 with a leadoff double that helped lead to a three-run top of the 1st, and his RBI single in the 2nd gave the Trolls a 4-0 lead.

The Saints would score three runs between the 3rd and 4th innings, but Trinity would increase their lead again, with Tommy Schaaf's RBI triple, and an RBI double from Moralez in the top of the 4th.

Thomas More rallied again, as a two-out, two-run double would push the home team over the top for the win.

The Trolls continue their six-game road trip next Wednesday, February 15, when they travel to Oakland City (Ind.) for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
