PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity Baseball opened the 2023 home schedule on Wednesday afternoon, capturing a pair of dominant victories in a doubleheader sweep over Grace Christian (Mich.), 12-2 and 13-3.

Hunter Slaats led the way at the plate for the Trolls (4-8), going a combined 3-for-7 with six RBI and his second home run of the year over both games. Brian Huttner drove in five runs on the day, including a 2-for-3 performance with four RBI and a home run in game two.

The Trolls struck early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 1st, highlighted by a two-run triple from Brock Bolser. In the 2nd, Trinity tallied six more, including a grand slam from Slaats that helped give the home team a 10-0 lead before the end of the second frame.

The theme continued in game two, as the Trolls went off for a five-run 1st inning, with two-run doubles coming off the bats of Preston Moore and Huttner. In the 5th, Huttner hit his first home run of the season, helping push the Trolls lead to 13-0 as part of a five-run 5th.

Both starting pitchers put in solid efforts, as Gunnar Bettenhausen and Logan Strutz each threw six innings and struck out eight to earn the wins.

The Trolls will close out the four-game series with the Tigers (1-9) on Saturday afternoon, with another twinbill from Schaaf Athletic Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
