Box Score PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trinity baseball earned their third straight series win in conference play, earning their fifth victory in a row with a 15-4 run-rule win over Calumet at Schaaf Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
The Trolls (13-14, 7-2 CCAC) matched their season high with 15 runs in the win, including a pair of grand slams from Jordan Veldman and Hunter Slaats. Trinity put the game out of reach in the top of the 3rd, with Veldman's shot highlighting an eight-run rally on five hits and an error.
Oliver Carmody gave the Trolls an early 3-1 lead in the 2nd with his first home run of the year, but the Crimson Wave (11-19, 3-6 CCAC) rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. After scoring three runs in the first two innings of play, the visitors were slowed, with just a solo home run in the 5th as the only offense produced the rest of the way.
Logan Strutz earned his fifth win of the season, pitching five innings of relief with just one run allowed. Reigning CCAC Player of the Week Michael Moralez reached base five times, going 4-for-4 at the plate with a walk, while scoring three times and recording an RBI.
Slaats finished with a game-high six RBI, with a two-run RBI in the 3rd inning, followed by the grand slam in the 7th that put the Trolls over the top and ending the game early on run rule. Veldman finished 2-for-4 with four RBI on the day.
The win marks the 13th of the season for the Trolls, matching last year's total with a month left to play in the regular season. The five-game win streak is the longest since the 2019 season, when Trinity won eight straight through Apr. 3-12.
The Trolls look to keep the momentum rolling on Thursday afternoon, when they open a three-game set with Trinity International. First pitch with the Trojans is set for 3:30 p.m. from Schaaf.
