FULTON, Mo. – Trinity baseball closed a six-game swing through Missouri, as the Trolls picked up a win in a split doubleheader with Missouri Valley on Wednesday before dropping both matchups to William Woods (Mo.) in the finale on Thursday.

Trinity (6-12) struck first against the Vikings (4-8) on Wednesday, as Oliver Carmody's leadoff single led to an RBI base hit from Anthony Cappelletti for the early 1-0 edge. A solo home run by Nick Anderson doubled the lead in the top of the 4th, before the home team rallied back with a run in the bottom half of the frame on a passed ball.

Trinity would post two more runs in the top of the 6th, when Andersen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Brian Huttner hit a sac fly to score Michael Moralez for a 4-1 lead. The Vikings would strike for two more in the bottom of the seventh, but with the potential game-tying run on third, Jake Ostrowski came on in relief to strike out the final two batters and secure the win, 4-3.

Cappelletti went 3-for-4 in the victory, with an RBI. Gunnar Bettenhausen earned the win with two earned runs allowed over 6.1 innings pitche,d while Ostrowski took the save.

The Trolls struggled at the plate in game two however, with Moralez recording the only base hit of the game for Trinity. A five-run 3rd inning would help give the Vikings an 8-0 win in the nightcap.

The offensive struggles continued into Thursday, as the Trolls dropped the first of two games with William Woods, 2-0. Trinity would collect seven base hits, including a 6th inning triple from Andersen, but the two runs scored by the Owls (10-8) in the bottom of the 3rd was enough to earn the win for the home team. Ostrowski came out of the pen once again, throwing three scoreless innings and striking out five.

In the second game of the day, Trinity broke through with a run in the top of the first, on an RBI groundout from Moralez. William Woods would respond with eight runs over the next three innings however, cruising to a 9-4 win.

Carmody went 2-for-3 in the game, along with a double and run scored. Ryan Grand drove in a pair of runs in the 6th inning, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk and run.

The Trolls have one more stop on their eight-game road trip, as they begin conference play next week with a doubleheader at Calumet. First pitch from Whiting, Ind. is set for 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14.
