Box Score 2 PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Brian Huttner doubled his home run total for the season on Saturday, but Trinity baseball dropped a pair of close ones in a doubleheader with Olivet Nazarene at the Schaaf Athletic Complex. The Trolls dropped the first game in extra innings, 5-4, before falling in game two, 6-3.
After the Tigers (23-18, 13-7 CCAC) struck first with two runs in the top of the 2nd in the opener, Huttner's solo shot in the bottom half of the frame cut the deficit in half, 2-1. The Trolls (19-19, 13-7 CCAC) tied the game in the 5th, when Nick Andersen reached base on a dropped third strike, then later scored on Michael Moralez's RBI double.
Olivet would score two more in the top of the 6th, but Preston Moore's home run would make it a one-run game again, and with the Trolls down to their last out, Huttner tied the game with his second home run of the day.
The Tigers would scratch across a run in the top of the 8th, and Trinity were unable to put a runner on base in the extra frame to drop game one. Huttner finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and runs scored, and Angel Toscana went 2-for-3 in the game.
In the second game, Hunter Slaats put the Trolls in front in the 2nd inning with a solo home run, but Olivet's two-out RBI single tied the game in the 3rd. A bases-loaded walk from Anthony Cappelletti put the Trolls back in front, before another two-out run-scoring base hit evened the score again in the top of the 4th.
A two-run home run in the 5th gave Olivet their first lead of the game, before the visitors added two more insurance runs in the 7th on their way to the doubleheader sweep. Jordan Veldman led the Trolls at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Cappelletti finished 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs driven in.
Trinity will now prepare for one last non-conference game of the season, when they travel to take on Lewis (Ill.) on Wednesday. First pitch from Romeoville, Ill. is set for 2:00 p.m.
