Box Score GRANGER, Ind. – Trinity baseball opened a three-game series with a win on Friday, and in doing so set extended a program-record long win streak to nine straight games, defeating hosts Indiana South Bend 4-2.
The streak breaks the record set originally in 2007, with Jake Ostrowski earning the win in relief. Ostrowski pitched seven shutout innings of relief, striking out six while working around four hits.
The Titans (11-19, 7-6 CCAC) took an early lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. The visitors responded in the top of the third, as Anthony Cappelletti's fourth home run of the season evened the score at 2-2, scoring Jordan Veldman after his leadoff single. The Trolls (17-14, 11-2 CCAC) extended their lead in the top of the 8th, taking advantage of a leadoff error and a wild pitch to score one run, then adding another on Tommy Schaaf's two-out RBI single.
Ostrowski took the mound in the bottom of the 3rd, and pitched two perfect frames before working around a pair of base hits in the 5th; the only time the Titans would place runners in scoring position throughout the game.
The Trolls will look to continue the win streak on Saturday afternoon, as they close the series with Indiana South Bend at Schaaf Athletic Complex with a doubleheader. Working with a two-game lead atop the CCAC standings, the Trolls will throw the first pitch on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
