Box Score 4 KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Trinity Baseball's run through the NCCAA World Series continued through Monday night and will carry on into Tuesday, as the Trolls scored an unanswered eight runs in the final two innings to come back and upset top-seeded Mid-America Christian (Okla.), 11-10.
Oliver Carmody walked off the hero, beating out a bunt single to drive in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th against the Evangels (38-17). Josh Bakke picked up the win, pitching the final 2.1 innings without allowing a hit as the offense rallied back into the game for the Trolls (29-27).
Trinity would fall behind early in their second elimination game of the day and fourth of the tournament, as MACU jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings. Trinity rallied in the 4th, beginning with an RBI single from Michael Moralez, and a sac fly from Hunter Slaats.
The Evangels extended their lead with a four-run 7th inning, going up 10-3 before the Trolls put together five runs on three hits, highlighted by Brock Bolser's bases-clearing triple. Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the 9th, Preston Moore would reach after being hit by a pitch, advance to second on Slaats' walk, then score on an error. Slaats would then tie the game by scoring on Tommy Schaaf's fielder's choice, before Carmody ended the game with the walk-off bunt single.
The Trolls are now winners of four straight after dropping their NCCAA World Series opener on Friday to Fort Lauderdale (Fla.). Trinity upset No. 4-seeded Toccoa Falls (Ga.) 8-2 and defeated No. 10-seed Dallas Christian 5-3 to extend their stay in Kansas City through the weekend. On Monday afternoon, the 9th-seeded Trolls defeated an Oakland City (Ind.) squad 7-6, avenging a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Mighty Oaks at the start of the season in mid-February.
Trinity will now face No. 2 seed Southwestern Christian (Okla.) on Tuesday afternoon, in a fifth elimination game, with the winner meeting Mid-America Christian again in the championship game later that day. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
