PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – A pair of first-half goals in a six-minute span set the tone for Trinity Men's Soccer, as the Trolls defeated Northwestern (Iowa) 3-1 on Saturday at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
A pair of newcomers scored their first goals in a Trinity uniform, as David Hernandez stuck first in the 26th minute. In the 32nd, Ismael Aguero doubled the lead with his first goal of the season.
The visiting Red Raiders (1-1) got on the board in the 38th minute, leading to a 2-1 lead for the Trolls (2-0-1) at the break.
Both teams would go scoreless in the second half until a late penalty kick from Ivan Perez in the 81st minute. The sophomore would convert for his team-leading third goal of the season.
The Trolls now prepare for their first road trip of the season, when they head to Missouri Baptist next Wednesday, August 30. Kickoff from St. Louis is set for 12:00 p.m.
