ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A pair of late penalties dealt Trinity men's soccer their first loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon, as the Trolls fell to Missouri Baptist, 2-1.
The Trolls (2-1-1) overcame a 9-2 shot deficit in the first half, with goalkeeper Giorgos Christodoulou making four saves to keep the match scoreless at the halftime break. In the 54th minute, freshman Joao Leonardo broke through with his second goal of the season to give Trinity a 1-0 advantage.
The Spartans (1-0-1) were able to pull even in the 72nd minute, taking advantage of a penalty and evening the score at 1-1. Twelve minutes later Missouri Baptist were awarded a second penalty, and took the lead in the 84th minute, and would hold the lead the rest of the way.
Trinity continues its' four-match road swing in a week, when they head to Indianapolis to take on Marian (Ind.) on Wednesday, September 6. Kickoff with the Knights is set for 7:00 p.m.
