INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A pair of scores in the closing minutes spoiled what was a defensive battle on Wednesday night, as Trinity men's soccer dropped a matchup at Marian (Ind.), 2-0.
A scoreless first half saw the Trolls (2-2-1) narrowly out-shot by the home side, with goalkeeper Giorgos Christodoulou making three saves before the break. An early header from James Hutchins, and another from Fernando Rosales in the 36th minute were both saved to keep the game even at the half.
Christodoulou made two more saves early in the second period, while Martin Markovic's shot in the 60th minute fired off the post to keep the match deadlocked. The Knights (2-0-2) finally broke through in the 84th minute to take the lead with the first goal of the night.
With the Trolls pressing forward in search of the equalizer, Marian would put another in the back of the net on a breakaway in the 90th minute, ending Trinity's chance at a comeback.
Trinity will look to bounce back as their four-match road trip continues Saturday, when they head to Aquinas (Mich.). Kickoff on September 9 against the Saints is set for 3:00 p.m.
