LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Trinity would take a late lead with less than 15 minutes to play, but an 89th minute strike from the hosts Viterbo would mean the Trolls come away with a 2-2 draw with the V-Hawks on Wednesday afternoon.
The Trolls (4-3-3, 2-1-1 CCAC) broke a 1-1 tie with Ivan Perez's team-leading fifth goal of the season, in the 79th minute. The sophomore's strike would come just eight minutes after Viterbo (4-1-4, 1-0-1 CCAC) tied the match with their first goal of the day, and ten minutes before the V-Hawks stole away a point with a goal scored with just 80 seconds left on the clock.
In the first half, Joao Leonardo put Trinity in front with a goal in the 37th minute, after the Trolls had been knocking on the door throughout the early portion of the match; four shots on goal prior to the freshman's strike were all stopped by the Viterbo goalkeeper.
With a one-goal lead entering the second half, Trinity would hold on despite a 10-5 shot disadvantage, until the 71st minute. Facing 21 shots overall, junior goalkeeper Giorgos Christodoulou would finish with four saves on the day, including two after Perez's goal put the Trolls in front.
Trinity returns to the Schaaf Athletics Complex on Saturday, as they look to get four in a row when they host Roosevelt. Kickoff with the Lakers is set for 2:30 p.m.
