Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Trolls come up just short against Calumet

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – A second-half run would tie the game, but Trinity was unable to move in front, in a close battled down the stretch as the Trolls fell to Calumet 75-73 on Wednesday night inside DeVos Gymnasium.

Team Leaders

Deylon Johnson scored a season-high 28 points, marking the highest point total for any player this season, on 12-of-21 shooting while pulling down five rebounds.

• Garrett Green posted 12 points, going 5-for-7 from the floor.

Jadon Williams contributed seven points with four boards.

How it Happened

• Both teams held narrow leads in the early minutes of the game, until an 8-0 run for the Trolls (4-10, 0-7 CCAC) gave the home team a 17-11 lead at the 11:52 mark of the first half.

• Trinity would hold the lead until the late moments of the first half, when the Crimson Wave (4-10, 2-5 CCAC) posted 12 unanswered to claim a 33-25 lead. The visitors stretched their lead to 11 points by the end of the half, closing the opening period on an 8-2 run.

• The Trolls bounced back to start the second half, opening with a 12-3 run of their own, highlighted by seven points from Johnson. The Wave held on to a two-point advantage to survive the scoring drought, and would keep the lead until midway through the second half.

• Johnson's layup at the 7:06 mark tied the game at 60-60, but a pair of turnovers on the Trolls next two possessions would allow the visitors to move back in front. Johnson would hit another jumper with 34 seconds remaining to pull the Trolls to within a point at 71-70, but Trinity were unable to hit another field goal the rest of the way as Calumet closed out the win.

Next Up

• The Trolls will look to bounce back in the first of three straight road trips, as Trinity heads to Indiana Northwest on Saturday, January 13. Tipoff with the RedHawks is set for 3:00 p.m.
