Alexander's 20 leads Trolls to second straight win

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Four days after setting a career high, senior guard Amena Alexander did it again, scoring 20 points as the Trolls picked up their second straight victory, 79-42 over Calumet inside DeVos Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Team Leaders

Alexander became the first player to post 20 points for the Trolls (2-11, 2-5 CCAC) this season, on 7-of-11 shooting and a 6-for-8 performance from three-point range. The senior also posted six assists for the second game in a row, along with a career-best nine rebounds.

Kyla Smith came off the bench to contribute a season-best 15 points, with five rebounds, for her first collegiate double-figure performance.

Desire Berrien scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, along with seven rebounds.

How it Happened

• Calumet (1-12, 0-7 CCAC) would score the game's opening bucket, but a quick jumper from Hannah Schuringa in response and the first of six threes from Alexander gave Trinity a 5-2 lead, which they would hold onto the rest of the night.

• In the second quarter, the Trinity defense would hold the Crimson Wave to just one field goal and force six turnovers, as Trinity out-scored Calumet in the second period by a 21-5 margin. Alexander posted nine points in the second, while Berrien went a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor for eight points.

• The Crimson Wave would post 20 points in the third quarter, their only period in which the visitors scored double-digits. The Trolls still out-scored their opponents in the third, 27-20 to put the game out of reach.

Next Up

• The Trolls will look to make it three in a row on Saturday afternoon, when they play the first of three straight road games, at Indiana Northwest. Tipoff with the RedHawks is set for 1:00 p.m.
