MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Trinity Men's Volleyball opened the 2024 season over the weekend, taking a pair of close losses, to hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) in four sets on Friday, and to Campbellsville (Ky.) in a five-set battle on Saturday.
Team Leaders
• Alex Costa led the Trolls with 39 points over all nine sets, averaging 3.9 kills per set with a .207 attack percentage.
• Setter Ryan Schmidt tallied 85 assists (9.4 per set) to go with six kills and a service ace.
• Maycor Carrion made his Trinity debut, collecting 28 digs (3.1 per set) along with a team-high three service aces.
• Mike Hay led the Trolls with seven total blocks on the weekend, as well as 18 kills and an ace.
How it Happened
• Trinity would drop the first two sets to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday, before bouncing back to with a close third set, 27-25.
• In the fourth set, the Cougars would jump out to an early 11-4 lead and remain in front the rest of the way, winning 25-15.
• On Saturday, the Trolls rebounded from an opening set loss to Campbellsville, 25-15, to take games two and three by scores of 25-20 and 25-22.
• The Tigers would rally in game four, closing on a 4-1 run to win 25-21. In the decisive fifth set, the Trolls would hold off three match points but the comeback fell just short, 15-13.

• Trinity heads to Grand Rapids, Mich. for a pair of matches starting Friday at 6:00 p.m., when they take on Cornerstone (Mich.). On Saturday morning, the Trolls face Aquinas (Mich.) in a match starting at 7:30 am.
