PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – For the first time since 1996, Trinity Men's Soccer will play in the CCAC Tournament Final, as the Trolls secured a 1-0 victory over Holy Cross on Monday afternoon at the Schaaf Athletic Complex.
The Trolls controlled much of the match, out-shooting the Saints 7-0 in the first half but were unable to break through with a goal. In the 42nd minute, Holy Cross would be forced to play a man down after a red card, but were able to hold off the Trolls to go into the halftime break even, 0-0.
In the 73rd minute, Trinity broke through as David Hernandez slotted away his 13th goal of the season, with an assist coming from Diego Martin.
Holy Cross would have a pair of good looks at an equalizer, but both attempts were stopped by Giorgos Christodoulou, who finishes with the clean sheet in goal.
The Trolls now prepare for top-seeded and regular season champions, Governors State, who await Trinity in the CCAC Tournament Final. With a win, the Trolls would earn the automatic berth into the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship.
Kickoff with the Jaguars is set for Thursday, November 14, at 1:00 p.m., at the Crown Point SportsPlex in Crown Point, Ind.
