MARION, Ind. – Four players finished in double figures as Trinity Men's Basketball had a hot-shooting first half, but the Trolls would come up short as the hosts No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan pulled away in the second half, 118-86 on Thursday night.
The Trolls went 8-for-13 from three-point range in the first half, opening the game with back-to-back threes from Danny Staskunas and Johnny Dieck to open the game. Trinity would hold a lead as late as the 14:17 mark, on Ognjen Petkovic's bucket to put the Trolls ahead 15-14.
The Wildcats would respond with a 14-4 run over the next two and a half minute, and would remain in front the rest of the way. In the second half the Trolls would cut the deficit to seven on Petkovic's three with 16:08 remaining, but three quick scores for the home team over their next three possessions pushed the gap back to 14 points, at 69-55.
Tylan Harris led Trinity in scoring, finishing with 15 points to go with six assists. Petkovic posted 14 points, going 6-for-9 from the floor while coming off the bench. Staskunas tallied 21 points, and Jacob Spauling finished with 11 along with four assists.
The Trolls now prepare for an exhibition matchup with Division I Illinois State on Sunday November 17, before opening league play next week. Tipoff with the Redbirds is set for 4:30 p.m.
