UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Trolls opened the night with a strong start, leading throughout most of the first half, but the host Jaguars would rally before the break as Trinity Men's Basketball dropped the CCAC opener at Governors State, 87-79.
The Trolls would take an early 8-2 lead after a pair of threes from Chris Cross in the first two minutes, and would remain in front until midway through the period. A 12-2 run for the Jaguars would give the home team a 28-24 lead by the 8:54 mark.
The Jaguars' lead would reach double digits, until Trinity closed the first half on a 10-5 run over the final 3:25, cutting the deficit to 46-41 at the break.
Cross would pull the Trolls to within three with his bucket at the 17:59 mark of the second half, but that would be as close as Trinity would get as Governors State maintained a small lead the rest of the night.
Cross finished the night with a game-high 24 points, along with five rebounds. Danny Staskunas and Tylan Harris each posted 16 points, with Harris adding in seven assists. Ognen Petkovic tallied 10 points with three boards.
The Trolls are back in action on Tuesday, November 26, when they return to DeVos Gymnasium to host St. Francis at 7:30 p.m.
